Twestival Los Angeles...and a cool B&B PSA!

I wanted to share this very cool PSA that Bold and Beautiful did for an amazing cause...it's called Twestival Los Angeles. You might have seen this floating about on my twitter and Facebook account and I decided, based on the feedback which was overwhelming, to include it on my personal blog as well.

Here are the details...

Right now 1.1 billion people on the planet don't have access to safe, clean drinking water. That's one in six of us. Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation causes 80% of all sickness and disease, and kills more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Many communities in developing nations could have a plentiful supply of clean drinking water just below the ground, but no way to get to it. Just $20 can provide clean water for a person in a developing country for 20 years.

This Thursday, February 12, more than 100 cities around the world, including Los Angeles, will be hosting a Twestival to bring attention to Charity: Water. (What’s a Twestival? An event organized on the social network Twitter.com.) These events are organized 100% by volunteers and 100% of the money raised from ticket sales, online donations, and other efforts will go directly to support Charity: Water projects. Charity: Water currently has projects in Bangladesh, Central African Republic, Cote D'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Haiti, Honduras, India, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Hi, Jen:

Loved the video with you and the cast, and it was for a good cause. Of course, being in NY, I couldn't be there in person, but I donated to Charity: Water at the web site.

Mike-Thanks ... for the comments. It is always a pleasure to hear from you. I am glad that you liked our video. It does increase everyone's awareness. Ann, in the BnB's upstair office, asked us to do this PSA. She put potting soil in water to make it look really terrible!

Vera- I am glad that you liked our clip. You are so correct, it would be terrible to have dirty water to drink. I cannot even imagine taking a bath or shower in that water. I am glad that I helped with this project even though I was so exhausted and had just returned from my Mexico trip, MBA class and work.

sam bell- Yes, you got the opportunity to take a peek in my dressing room. If you had a wider view you would have seen the other collage you made for us there too. I begged Rebecca to loan me her collage for a little while because it really decorates the area and it makes me think of her! Everyone who shares my dressing room (when I am not there) comments on the poster. Your art work has made an impression!

Scott N- I understand that the water in NYC is very clean. I lived there for many years (ten years ago) and it was always good. How is it now? They say that the good NYC water is the reason the "HnH" bagels are so tasty (So they say!)

Joke-Hello and how's the weather today? Did it clear up? It rained in CA. and the sun did not shine. It was sunny where my parents live, but of course it is also freezing. Spring will soon be here!

I want to write a huge THANKS...to you and your family!!!!!! OH MY, I received the biggest envelope full of stamps in the mail. My niece will be so happy. I can almost hear her now,

Ewas Sida- How is that wonderful little grandchild growing? My mom says that the little ones are getting so big. I might not see them for several months, and they change so much. The younger they are, the more they change. I LOVE my nieces and nephews.

NYC water is kind of interesting, Jen. If you go to any beaches or lakes around the area, the water always seems kind of murky, so pools have become more popular for swimming over the years. But I guess the folks at the reservoirs and utility companies are doing their job, because the water coming into our homes is very clean. A lot of homes now use filters on sinks and refrigerators to filter out the stuff that's still left for drinking, but that's relatively minor, and it doesn't seem like we have anywhere close to the problems LA seems to have.

Of course, some people just like the idea of bottled water and water coolers. We actually have a water cooler in our kitchen/dining room area, and I tend to use the water cooler at work to fill a bottle to drink from. But I think that may be because the coolers keep the water cold (as opposed to tap water that would be at room temperature) than because the water from the tap is really poor quality.
